Throughout the season, Edcouch-Elsa senior Kelly Aguinaga and freshman Haley Villalpando received a ton of recognition for their accomplishments.

Aguinaga was the heir apparent to Krysta Martinez who made a ton of noise while running at Edcouch-Elsa High School.

Aguinaga burst onto the scene with a vengeance at the start of the season as she won multiple races throughout the Rio Grande Valley and across the State of Texas and placed high in each and every meet she competed in throughout the regular season.

Aguinaga helped E-E win a fourth straight district title on the girls’ side due to her leadership and was rewarded with a scholarship to run at UTRGV.

As for Villalpando, the rising star made a name for herself at the Stockshow Invitational by coming in third place.

From there, Villalpando skyrocketed to the top by winning the individual district title and then followed that up with a fourth place finish at regionals to punch her ticket to state.

Due to their outstanding performances on the season, both Aguinaga and Villalpando received high honors at the Rio Grande Valley Cross-Country Coaches Association Awards Banquet on November 15th.

Villalpando highlighted the accomplishments for E-E as she was named the Newcomer of the Year for the 2016 season.

As for Aguinaga, she also gained some huge recognition on the Girls side as a First Team All-Valley Selection.
