In 2004, Red Ribbon Week was established in memory of Enrique S. Camarena who joined the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). His first assignment as a Special Agent with DEA was in a familiar place - Calexico, California. He was kidnapped on February 7, 1985. On that fateful day, while headed to a luncheon with his wife, Mika, Kike was surrounded by five armed men who threw him into a car and sped away. That was the last time anyone but his kidnappers would see him alive. We honor his efforts to prevent illegal drug use by celebrating Red Ribbon week annually. During the last week of October, schools participate in different themed events to promote a healthy life style- drug free!

It’s not too late to be part of this year’s theme! #YOUONLYLIVEONCE
