Edcouch-Elsa head volleyball coach Ofelia Griffith is no stranger to making playoff appearances.

And after the Lady Jackets obtained a win against Mercedes on Saturday afternoon, they were able to keep an impressive streak alive as she clinched her 13th consecutive playoff appearances under her tenure.

The Lady Jackets had a slow start at the beginning of the first set as they made some crucial mistakes which hurt them and allowed Mercedes to stay within striking distance.

After a timeout, E-E looked like a completely different team as they started to pull away and came out victorious thanks to a 25-14 win.

In the second set, the Lady Jackets kept their momentum going while building a big lead over the Lady Tigers.

Edcouch-Elsa continued to pile up the points and managed to win the second set 25-13.

In the third set, Mercedes did not want to go down without putting up a fight and managed to stay with the Lady Jackets for a bit.

But then the Lady Tigers lost their momentum and Edcouch took their opportunity to win the third and final set with a score of 25-12.

For several girls on the team, this will be their last playoff appearance because they are seniors.  One of those seniors is Ale Martinez who talked about what she feels in regards to this being her last playoff appearance

“This was expected from us because we have a history of having 13 straight playoff runs,” said Martinez.  “I am happy that we made it again because last year I wasn’t able to play.”

“This means so much more to me now that I am a senior and I plan on enjoying this ride.”

With the win, E-E improves to 8-3 in District 32-5A and sits all alone in second place with three games to go.

The Lady Jackets will have their next district match-up on Tuesday night and will face Brownsville Pace who is fighting to keep a playoff spot alive.
