CHECK project

The 4th Grade Class at LBJ has been awarded a grant from Knapp Community Care Foundation for their participation in CHECK. CHECK (Creating Healthy Eating Choices for Kids) is a health promotion program which focuses on healthy nutrition for school-aged children and their parents. The CHECK project will engage graduate nursing students from UT-RGV in facilitation of USDA’s “Serving Up My Plate: A Yummy Curriculum.”  The 4th grade students will receive nutrition education, learn to make healthy lifestyle choices and create and maintain a fruit and vegetable garden to help extend their connection to the sources of their food and further empower them to incorporate healthy food choices into their lifestyles.  The ribbon cutting ceremony and parade took place on Friday with representatives from UT-RGV and the Knapp Community Care Foundation joining in on the celebration.
