LBJ Elementary: Did he see his shadow?

Groundhog DayGroundhog Day was February 2nd. It is said that if Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog, sees his shadow on February 2nd, then there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If he does not see his shadow, then we are in for an early spring.
While students in Ms. N. Hernandez’s 1st grade class waited to see what Phil had to say about this year’s weather, they made their own predictions.

In this lesson, the students also explored different types of weather, clouds, and temperature by creating an interactive foldable.

After learning Phil’s outcome, the students compared it with their predictions. They learned that Phil did not see his shadow; therefore, an early spring is in the forecast.
